Elephant Trekking at Ayung Valley

Ride through the jungle on the back of a lumbering elephant, catching glimpses of nimble monkeys and exotic birds fluttering through the tree canopy. Snap photos as you ride, watch these monstrous creatures cool off in the Ayung River, and then tuck into a tasty lunch to round out your afternoon.

Meet up with your guide just outside your South Bali or Ubud hotel and enjoy a relaxing ride through rice fields and jungle landscapes that blanket the surrounding plains and rolling hills. Reach the Bali Elephant Camp and hop out to join local mahouts, elephant trainers, as they saddle up these gentle giants. Before you take off, learn a bit about elephant ecology and find out how to ride them with a few basic tips from experienced trainers.

Climb up into your seat and set off into the jungle, following your guide as they lead you underneath webs of jungle vines to the sounds of outspoken monkeys and chirping birds. Follow the lazy current of the Ayung River until you reach a wide open pool perfect for a quick elephant bath. Wade into the water, keeping your feet dry, and watch as their dexterous trunks target patches of dried mud. Cleaned up and ready for lunch, head back to your starting point and climb down from your substantial steed.

Consider helping to feed your elephant, and then round out your day at a local restaurant, where you can tuck into typical Balinese dishes while taking in sweeping views of the valley below. With your appetite sated, jump back on a comfortable shuttle and cruise back to your hotel.
