Best Places to Shop in Seminyak

Seminyak, with its eclectic mix of world-class restaurants, is also a trove of designer boutiques, international surf shops and lifestyle brand outlets. Most of the smaller shops line the main road of Jalan Raya Seminyak (also referred to as Jalan Basangkasa), while a collection of fashionable boutiques can be found along Jalan Laksmana and several corners of Jalan Petitenget. For some great world-class, island-based jewellery pieces, check out the House of Jemme that flanks a green patch of rice paddies on Jalan Petitenget, or Tulola Jewelry further down the road where it showcases its sterling silver and gold exquisite jewellery line created by a New York-born Balinese designer.

Quirky home ware items can be found at Kody & Ko on one of the side streets of Seminyak, and for clothing and glamorous tropical wear step into the well laid out stores of Biasa Bali on the main road, or Bamboo Blonde for some great selections and accessories to mix and match. Be it modern, ethnic and chic, with natural and silk fabrics adorned with beading and sequins in strong deep colours – the summer collections are perfect for Bali’s tropical climate and any summer day around the world. Surfer dudes aren’t left out, with Deus Ex Machina and Drifter Surf Shop catering to the wave riding crowd with their cool boards and apparel. Here’s a roundup for this upscale beach resort area.

The boutique stocks unique pieces, incorporating light and top quality cotton, linen and silk. Soft fabrics merge into fine individual pieces based on the sketches and cuts of founding designer, Susanna Perini. The shop features bright and colourful contemporary home ware and art pieces sourced locally, and made by both local and expat artists. Unique and fun items, from kitsch portraits of Balinese girls, pastel-coloured bean bags, Buddha statuettes in full colour, and flower and zebra-striped handbags are some of the things you’ll stumble upon inside the gallery. Unusual furniture is also displayed at the storefront. Every single item on display is something out of the ordinary. Racks and walls are full of face artwork and animal busts, and alongside the colourful Buddhas that theoretically represent Zen, there’s a set of flamboyantly coloured pop skulls that somehow defy their usual depiction of grim and death. Bintang Supermarket is one of the most notable shopping spots in central Seminyak, located on the western side of the main Jalan Raya Seminyak road (also referred to as Jalan Basangkasa). The supermarket provides visitors, expatriates and locals double convenience: firstly, this large shop with its big red star logo is a handy and casual landmark for meeting up with friends, day or night, before heading to highlighted diners or hangouts that surround the area, and secondly, it’s a great one-stop spot for sourcing daily needs, imported goods and refreshments, especially if you’re a long-staying guest at one of the villas nearby. It is among the only few supermarkets in the area selling a wide range of imported goods, such as vegemite (another place in Seminyak to find such items would be at the Bali Deli on Jalan Kunti and one of the tenants at the Seminyak Square on the far end of Jalan Kayu Aya).
