Locavore broke grounds in early 2013 as an enterprise by two five-star resort chefs, Eelke Plasmeijer and Ray Adriansyah, who shared the same vision. They set out to passionately create a unique dining scene that serves modern, contemporary European cuisine using locally grown and seasonal ingredients. Inspired by a trending healthy dining concept in the west, they named their restaurant Locavore or ‘eat local’ and were determined to serve as catalysts between local producers and discriminating diners. Naughty Nuri’s is a legendary street side grill house located halfway on Jalan Raya Sanggingan in Ubud. Evolved into a full-fledged restaurant, Nuri’s serves a great selection of meat grills, with tasty Western and Indonesian dishes, and promotes itself as the place for 'Good Indonesian Food'. One of the best Ubud restaurants to enjoy juicy pork ribs, it is only a few steps across the road from the Neka Museum, and the tempting smoke from its roadside grill are hard to miss. The main highlight here are Naughty Nuri’s premium grilled pork ribs, tender and succulent with the meat easily slipping off the bones. Sari Organik is an organic market initiative in Ubud, specializing in growing organic vegetables and rice and making other products that can be processed from local produce. One of its great projects includes the Warung Bodag Maliah at Subak Sok Wayah, located amongst vast rice paddies 20 minutes from downtown Ubud, which has earned recognition as one of the best restaurants in Ubud for a wholesome meal. At the airy warung you can enjoy ready-to-serve healthy meals and also shop for packets of wholesome whole-grain rice, jams, soy milk, honey and fresh vegetables. Don’t expect a posh setting, and service can seem a bit unhurried. Nevertheless it is indeed a very laidback dining experience. Recommended fresh cold drinks to beat the heat include tropical ice coffee that is a blend of banana, pineapple, milk and coffee; and the ginger salsa of lemon, mint, ginger, lemongrass and honey. There is a rich list of organic salads and tasty dressings, and you can find anything from pizzas, spaghettis to nasi goring fried rice and gado-gado cold veggie salad on the menu. Enjoy beautiful views and spend your lunch hours on a daybed or go about and admire the surrounding organic farm. It’s also one of the greatest places to enjoy sunsets in Ubud, setting over the paddy horizon.
