Best Places to Go at Night in Kuta

Kuta rose to international fame from surfing hype and its golden sand beach, but once the sun sets you’ll find an exciting nightlife scene with its wealth of bars, clubs and sunset chill-out spots. Some are outright late clubbing venues that are open as late as 04:00 in the morning, while others are great bars that transform into livelier spots with exhilarating dance floors and resident and international guest DJs spinning their best beats to a play of colourful lasers.

A long-running club is District, which is the evolution of the legendary Musro Bali on Jalan Kartika Plaza. Also on the street is Gracie Kelly’s at the Bali Dynasty Resort, which is unique in that it is the only Irish Pub on the island. On the beach street of Jalan Pantai Kuta, there is the Hard Rock Café, and the newer Hypnotized on the third level of the Kuta Beachwalk which also makes up the nightly scene. Here we’ve picked out the Top 10 spots in Kuta for those looking for a great time after sunset.

Also known as the ‘Bounty Ship’, this one-stop entertainment complex is complete with an expansive discotheque, restaurant and bar where you can enjoy booze with fashion shows, sexy dancers and DJs who converge to provide thrilling sights and sounds. It retains much of its former appeal with its fun themed parties and reasonably priced drinks. Open from 17:00 every afternoon, you can step right in from the sidewalk and opt for its open-air terrace to enjoy street views and people-watching, or go further inside to the bar, lounge or dance floor where a mostly young crowd begins to gather in the wee hours. Hypnotized Club, part of the VH Bali rooftop entertainment complex at the Kuta Beachwalk, is one of the great places in Kuta to meet up with friends in time for great sunset moments. The doors of the dazzling, laser-lit Hypnotized open at 22:00 to the clubbing crowd, who are in for a treat with regular club nights and top live performers. Glitzy international female DJs have worked the turntables here, the likes of FHM models Kim Lee and Kat Nova, who join DJ-ing forces as the duo KIMKAT. Hard Rock Café Bali is both a favourite dining spot and one of the notable nightspots in Kuta, located right at the front of the Hard Rock Hotel Bali. The cafe serves American dishes off its rock n’ roll inspired menu, and later into the nights, its lower stage area and bar sets the atmosphere with live music. Join in on their ‘DJ Mashup’ midweek, featuring MC Spicy delivering a mix from Hip-Hop, R n’ B, old skool to rare groove; Klub Kulture at the weekend features compilations of your favourite dance tracks by Claudia Jaramillo, and an eclectic night mixed with big room house, electro and a twist of new wave is featured Fridays. Home band The Kings takes to the stage with Top 40 hits at 21:00 onwards. Read More...

Pyramid Club broke grounds with a unique presence on the Kuta outskirts of Jalan Dewi Sri, with a Luxor-inspired sphinx head on its façade that has quick become an icon. Past the two fire towers and into the lair, inside you will find a large bar that is an ideal scene for sexy dancing, and there’s a dance floor in front of a stage where live bands and top DJs perform before the partying crowds. When you’re not dancing, there are many low lounges to sink into. At the front is a café that serves as a great stopover for quick bites during the day, and it also feeds peckish night owls as well. Wednesdays is Pyramid Live featuring live bands in its Beat Room, and Fridays feature Vibration with in-house and guest DJs and sexy dancers as top signature cocktails go around. Read More...

Engine Room is a hip three-storey nightclub that chugs away nightly with a mostly young crowd on the main street of downtown Legian. The club’s doors open in the afternoon, earlier than most of the late night spots along the same strip. Partygoers can drop straight into the main dance floor from the Legian sidewalk, and it is a popular first stop on their club-hopping adventures, with other great hubs such as Sky Garden and Vi Ai Pi just a short walk down the street. Stark Beer Garden, formerly known as Beer Garden Kuta, takes its current name from Stark Beer, the only beer brewed in Bali. The bar is located at the J Boutique Hotel in Kuta with an open-plan design overlooking the busy Jalan Kartika. The bar has an all-timber interior with long tables inviting relaxed mingling, a stretch of lawn (something of a rarity in the heavily developed Kuta resort area) and of course, Stark Beer on tap. Gracie Kelly's at the Bali Dynasty Resort on Jalan Kartika is Bali’s first and only original Irish pub. This fun place is just below the lobby, and stepping inside is like entering a century-old rural Irish pub. From the menu are a selection of wholesome, home cooked Irish classics, and drinks are normally ordered by pints. Always the best spot to celebrate St. Patrick's Day during your holiday, as great Irish music fills the air and you can have lots of fun with a host of events held such as Irish dances, drinking competitions, live performances, and service from Gracie Kelly's green leprechauns. On any other evening, its live entertainment and Kilkenny’s all the way. Look out for their happy hours between 21:00 and 22:00 when you can get 2 for 1 drink specials on Bali Hai Draught Beer and Artisan Wines. Read More...

Deejay Club is a hip nightspot in Kuta, located just behind the Kuta Station Hotel, and part of the Paradiso Lifestyle Complex, which houses southern Kuta’s main bowling alley and billiards centre on Jalan Kartika Plaza. The club is the go-to spot for night owls looking for an after-hour venue, as it opens just after midnight. While most other places along the strip close down, the club becomes alive with thumping beats, ranging from commercial EDM to house and techno, although the musical direction at Deejay Club really depends on who’s helming the booth from its solid roster of resident jocks. Resident DJs include Jaux Ion, Noldy, GoezD or Tra’Billo, each of whom personally favour a bit of progressive, punk, house and dance into their mixes, respectively. Occasional one-off events feature international guest DJs, with previous headliners including DJs Yuta Adachi of Japan, Solace from Australia, and 2010 DJ Awards winner of psychedelic trance, Liquid Soul.
