Vihara Dharma Giri is a beautiful Buddhist temple in the village of Pupuan in Tabanan, West Bali. The temple's best known for its large, white sleeping Buddha statue. It's among the top attractions of Pupuan. The village itself is usually favoured for its expanses of rice fields. It's a highlight on the scenic drive to Lovina in North Bali if you’re travelling from Bali’s south. Visiting Vihara Dharma Giri

The Vihara Dharma Giri Temple is built on three levels, each boasting a different set of features. The main attraction is the magnificent sleeping Buddha is located on the second level. The temple is open to the public and entrance is free. However, you’re expected to make a donation when you enter (IDR 15,000 or a dollar is acceptable). A custodian will provide you with some guidance and hints on proper conduct. This includes acceptable attire. No shorts and you should be covered from the waist down. Sarongs are offered for those who didn’t bring their own.

Highlights at Vihara Dharma Giri Temple in Tabanan

The first level features an open and public courtyard where you can enjoy some refreshments. Then, up a flight of steps, you’ll find the 10-metre-long sleeping Buddha in all its glory. It's set against a backdrop of greenery from the tranquil gardens of the yard and wide blue sky. Further, up a few stairs to the top level, you’ll find a small pavilion that houses a large bell. There's also a main building that's home to another Buddha figure, in bright gold and set in a sitting pose. This main building also serves as the main prayer house for devotees. From Kuta, Vihara Dharma Giri is around a two-hour drive.
