Visiting Vihara Dharma Giri
Vihara Dharma Giri was built on 3 levels, with each offering a different set of features. The main attraction is the magnificent sleeping Buddha that’s located on the second level. The temple is open to the public and entrance is free. Even so, you’re expected to make a donation when you enter.
A temple custodian will provide you with some guidance and hints on proper conduct within the temple grounds. This includes acceptable attire – no shorts and you should be covered from the waist down. Sarongs are offered for those who don’t bring their own.
Highlights at Vihara Dharma Giri Temple in Tabanan
The temple’s first level features an open and public courtyard where you can enjoy some refreshments. Then, up a flight of steps, you’ll find the 10-metre-long sleeping Buddha in all its glory. The statue is set against a backdrop of greenery from the tranquil gardens of the yard and wide blue sky.
Further up a few stairs to the top level, you’ll find a small pavilion that houses a large bell. There's also a main building that's home to another Buddha figure, in bright gold and set in a sitting pose. This main building also serves as the main prayer house for devotees. From Kuta, Vihara Dharma Giri is around a 2-hour drive.
