The Onion Bar & Restaurant is a sports bar and restaurant serving international cuisine in Sanur. It’s on the side street of Jalan Cemara, which is one of Sanur’s uncrowded side streets. You can easily walk up to The Onion from the Kamuela Villas & Suites or the Puri Santrian hotel nearby. The restaurant offers something for all with its multi-layered venue concept. There’s an open-air courtyard with clean white rattan tables and chairs up front. Bordered by mini palms, this quaint courtyard overlooks the street and is great for people watching.
 
Inside, you can find The Onion’s roomy indoor dining area under an open beam ceiling. The bar serves as its centrepiece, while an adjacent section houses a game room with 3 pool tables and dartboards. The overall atmosphere here is friendly and casual. It’s a good place to bring the kids, too. Its menu reflects this. You have a good selection of hearty grills and steaks, as well as sandwiches and burgers, some pastas and seafood choices. The Onion is big on fun and entertainment, and special menus often follow what’s on. A special 3-course set menu for the Melbourne Cup, for instance. It starts off with choices of a chicken liver pate, prawn salad or crispy filo pastry basket. Choices for the mains include salmon fillet, roast pork loin or braised beef medallions. Then, a banoffee pie pleasantly concludes the course. Such set menus are around IDR 280,000 (USD 20). But almost every night, from 20:00 onwards, you can expect your dinners to be accompanied by great live music as well. Local original and cover bands such as Mission Motherland, Katakunci, Canopy and The Rock Truck play everything from glam and classic rock to jazz and rhythm n’ blues.
 
Come in on Sundays, and you’re in for their Sunday Roasts. It’s held twice, from noon to 15:00 and from 17:00 until 21:00, both sessions with fresh, imported meats. Roast selections start from IDR 240,000 (USD 17), and kids under 12 can eat for free. If there’s a Sunday live game broadcast on, you can watch the action on multiple TV screens. You can even have different game feeds on if you ask them. Their rear sports bar with pool tables often features games and challenges with prizes to win, making it all the merrier for a fun time out in this out-of-the-way corner of Sanur.
