Spice Mantraa Indian Cuisine in Bali
Contemporary Indian Restaurant and Bar in Kuta0
Spice Mantraa Indian Cuisine is a contemporary Indian restaurant in South Kuta serving a wide range of Indian cuisine with a twist. The stylish restaurant features dining areas on two levels, and is located in front of Waterbom Bali waterpark and just opposite the Discovery Shopping Mall. At the centre of the venue is an elaborately decorated bar serving cold Guinness on tap and refreshing beverages and cocktail selections, making Spice Mantraa a great stop even just for cooling down from the hot Bali sun.
The menu at Spice Mantraa is an eclectic mix of classic Indian, Tamil and Gujarati dishes. Aromatic delights range from a lemon and coriander soup which is laced with coconut milk and cardamom, to the Gujarati khichadi-kadhi vegetarian rice and the nizaami ghosht khichda, a traditional Hyderabadi stew that is slow-cooked with lamb chops, lentils, whole spices and cracked wheat. Prices range between IDR 35,000 and 125,000 (USD 3 – 10).Read More

On Spice Mantraa’s contemporary side of the menu, there’s the bandstand grilled sandwich, which is a quick and filling treat, reminiscent of a day out on the beach. Others include the Mumbai vada pav sliders (IDR 55,000 or USD 4), a soft bun stuffed with a garlicky, spiced, fried potato patty topped with green chutney, right from the seaside stalls of Mumbai, and the Goodness Golgappa (IDR 65,000 or USD 5), a modern serving of classic crisp bite-sized puris (unleavened deep-fried Indian bread), packed with potato, sprouts, tamarind chutney and jal-jeera flavoured water.
The restaurant is accessible from the street-side, along the footpath of Kuta’s Jalan Kartika Plaza, and through a small passage from Waterbom Bali’s parking area. Inside, the subtly lit and cool interiors let you relax and admire the ‘secret garden’-style interiors, with indoor plants, décor and wall motifs in fluid and organic motifs. For a casual and alfresco setting, you can opt for the balcony side with square tables that allow for people watching overlooking the street and mall up front. If you’re on the run, they have a takeaway menu as well.
