Single Malt Bar at IZE Seminyak is one of Bali’s most unique bars, boasting the most extensive selection of whiskeys on the island. The bar is the alteration of the upper level lounge and cocktail area of Meja Kitchen, and has become one of the main spots for chilled out evenings in Seminyak, with week-long agendas comprising 2-for-1 promos on special drinks, special ladies’ nights, and a host of live DJs playing everything from blues, soul, rock to house and modern techno.
Take a glimpse of the ultra-modern architectural features of the hotel at the back as you head up from Meja and enter the starkly contrasted interior of Single Malt Bar, with its warm toned lounge atmosphere in different seating areas. There’s an old-fashioned booth with wooden floors and walls, and high-back leather bar chairs on Persian rugs. The main interior features the similar classy, gentlemen’s Great Gatsby-ish setup, with framed black-and-white pictures of historical figures on its brick motif walls. An alfresco and leafy mezzanine seats up to 20, and is great for breezier meet-ups with friends.

Single Malt Bar takes pride in its collection of 60 bottles of rare whiskies, bourbons, and single malts that come from as far as India, Japan and Sweden. The team of mixologists also makes use of these spirits in its range of cocktails, resulting in new signature Whisky-based recipes in addition to the array of regulars, such as the classic Manhattan. Try the Adorable Apricot, a blend of Ballantine’s blended scotch, lemon, bitters, white honey and scotch-infused dried apricot, or the Chivas Compote, a refreshing treat to the last sip, with Chivas 12, bitters, lemon and orange rind, cooked pear apple cinnamon clove and honey.
If you’re one with a sweet tooth and in for some great whisky cocktails, there’s the Rhubarbara, a sweetie sensation of rhubarb, cinnamon, egg white, honey and strawberry, and then there’s the Spice Trader, with cinnamon, clove, cardamom, nutmeg, vanilla, tamarind and honey. The great old whiskies are available as 10 and 12-year old selections, up to IDR 130,000 per glass, and there’s even 20-year selections offered at reasonable prices. Big ice balls play their role for any ‘on the rocks’ order.
If you’re feeling peckish, there’s a tapas menu with a slight Asian influence offering Peking duck rolls with Hoisin sauce, or you can pair that Japanese whisky with something of similar origin such as a ‘sushi trio’. Must-tries include a bourbon-barbecued pork ribs and the mini maple bacon burger slider. The tapas selections range from IDR 60,000 to 70,000, and were designed to go very well with any age-old whisky or cocktail. And to take it up a notch, there’s nothing like pairing it up with a nice Cuban cigar while slouching in the black sofas.
Single Malt Bar presents special nights throughout the week for ladies and the gents. Come on a Tuesdays to enjoy the aptly named ‘Mad Men’ nights with a laidback lounge atmospheres and an excellent female pianist performing from 20:00 to 22:00. The ladies are also in for a treat with two single malts for the price of one. Thursdays is ‘Dram Queen’ night, featuring a free-flow for ladies until 23:00, and come Fridays and Saturdays, the DJs do their gig spinning favourite tracks, from old school to modern.
