Fine Natural Soaps and Wellness Products in Bali

Sensatia Botanicals has become one of the most recognisable Bali-based brands for its great line of fine natural soap bars, skincare and wellness products. From humble beginnings in the coastal village of Jasri, East Bali at the turn of the millennium, the profit-sharing cooperative introduced its line of signature all-natural, square-cut soap bars, which quickly developed a loyal following. Now over 15 years strong, it has successfully expanded its line beyond soaps, with an extensive selection of skincare and lifestyle products, which are all natural, and most importantly, safe.

Staying true to good manufacturing practices, Sensatia Botanicals also gives back to the local community by employing and empowering villagers. Its expanding product line has also meant more opportunities over time, from harvesting and processing organic sea salts, to making coconut oils and crafting bags used in its attractive gift sets. There are currently three shops on the island where you can step into fragrant showcases, namely the flagship store at the production facility at its hometown of Jasri, another shop close to the Ubud Monkey Forest, and the latest at the new Seminyak Village.

Its handmade organic soaps come in a variety of blends, including a woody-scented signature ‘herbal lulur’ bar that is a take on a traditional remedy that gives a warming sensation. This is achieved through the use of herbs and spices such as sandalwood, fenugreek, star aniseed, bay leaves and gandapura (Gaultheria punctata). Other essential oils are often added to sweeten the fragrance, such as lemongrass and cananga flower. Other herbal blends include coconut-mandarin, carrot-wild ginger, cinnamon-clove and green tea-honey, while a special tea tree line comprises even more fragrant options. The square bars are available in two sizes, 25gr (IDR 12,500) and 125gr (IDR 60,000).

The extended body care line includes luscious body butters that help hydrate skins of all types and conditions. The base is made up of pure shea butter, raw cocoa butter and virgin coconut, almond, candlenut and wheat germ oils. Different blends of essential oils added to the base make for the variety, such as Cleopatra’s Rose Body Butter, which is full of floral goodness; or geranium, chamomile and lavender for relaxation.

Holidaying in the tropics, you might want to try their lemongrass botanical lotion, available in 60ml tubes (IDR 100,000) which not only works well to ease sunburnt skin, but also naturally wards off mosquitoes and bugs. For days out in the waves or on sand, there’s the Sea & Surf Sunscreen (IDR 120,000) of SPF 30 with a sweet French lavender scent that is safe for facial use and for kids. You can also buy gift sets in various size packs, as well as the essential oils used in their products in various blends to bring back home, sold in 10ml vials (IDR 100,000 – 200,000) and good for oil burners in the living room.
