Profitto Italian Restaurant
Hip Italian Restaurant in Denpasar0
(Profitto Italian Restaurant has closed down in late 2014). This Italian Restaurant is right downtown, only minutes away from the Puputan Renon Square and the Bajra Sandi landmark. It serves pizzas, pastas and grilled items with quaint interiors and welcoming dining spaces.
Pergolas with white wicker chairs and green cushions at front provide airy settings for breakfast. The main indoor dining area flanks a bar where signature drinks are prepared and is ideal for intimate settings, while at the far end is a semi-open section set under glass ceilings that let in ample daylight.Read More

This is one of a few restaurants in town that has managed to strike a balance between good food, price and atmosphere. From Denpasar’s one-way Niti Mandala route, the sleek and modern exterior is easily noticed with a striking sign bearing its stylised logo – a Mario-like caricature in a chef’s hat. This branding hints at its playful and innovative approach to its cuisine. Italian selections fill but not dominate the menu; you will also find some Asian adaptations such as Thailand’s tom yum among its soup selections.
Past the casual outdoor lounge, you enter Profitto’s main dining room where a more refined atmosphere awaits. This section is spacious and air-conditioned, and long upholstered seating lines the left wall, together with glass-top tables and white wooden chairs. Little crystal droplet features hang from the ceiling adding to its glossy appeal. Opposite is the bar, decorated with colourful bottles in small boxes, and beside it is the kitchen with a brick dome reminiscent of a wood-fired oven (it turned out to be a replica, but one which effectively sets the mood right). The separate dining section at the end converts into a more private spot, flooded with light during the day and featuring a mini stage for live entertainment at dinnertime.
This stylish addition to Denpasar’s dining scene offers a varied menu of Italian delights – all at affordable prices. Apart from the familiar choices, such as the Neapolitan from its freshly baked pizza list, Profitto serves mostly its own innovative takes on Italian favourites. Among its quirky fresh bakes are the sweet ‘fruity pizzas’; have you ever tried an almond durian pizza? Curiosity aside, we reserved that for another occasion and went for the chicken thousand islands first, which was a rich tasting delight with generous amounts of toppings and sauce.
It is a whole lot more fun to come here with family or friends, as the various dishes are good to share and sample. The pizzas, starters and grills are all fine to go halves with, but the soups and desserts are single portions – and most would want it for themselves anyway. The salads and soups are well presented; the minestrone comes with a choice of beef or chicken and the creamy zuppa was scrumptiously thick, served in a bowl and topped with a fluffy slab of flaky puff pastry. From the grill, you can go for a juicy tenderloin with barbecue sauce, grilled chicken pepper, salmon meuniere or a ‘crispy chicken mushroom’ served with mushroom sauce. For smaller bites, opt for the chicken cordon bleu or parmigiana.
Profitto’s range of pastas dominates the menu, with full choices of fettuccines, spaghettis and lasagnes. Our beef lasagne had chunky layers that were a delight to dig into and savour. To wash all of these down is a selection of drinks, although no alcoholic beverages are in sight. The barman fixed up our almond ligero, sunset punches and peach coffee frappe in a flash. The beverage selection is a treat for families with kids – from floats and layers to shakes and blends, there is also a range of assorted coffees and teas that will ease you down after a day out in the town.
