Poppies Restaurant in Kuta

Garden Restaurant in Bali

Poppies Restaurant is a legendary dining spot in Legian. Opened in the ‘70s, Poppies lends its name to the popular street that connects Kuta and Legian. You can find the restaurant at the far eastern end of Poppies Lane. One of its main draws is its lush garden oasis setting. This is well tucked away from the bustling traffic of Bali’s famous beach resort area. This garden restaurant serves a good range of Indonesian and international dishes. It presents this with a warm Balinese family sensibility. Most of the staff have been with the restaurant from the beginning, welcoming repeat guests ‘home’ with every visit.

Dining at Poppies Restaurant

Poppies Restaurant is part of the Poppies Bali hotel. The hotel offers a collection of cosy, thatch-roofed cottages around its age-old coconut grove. However, it’s also a standalone restaurant that's open to the hungry public diner. Step into its grounds and you can choose to dine under a canopy of flowers or amidst lush gardens. You can also choose a spot among pools and fountains. You can also enjoy after-dinner drinks at the bar. There’s a wide selection of cocktails and cold Bintang from the tap. The drink list also features fine teas and Balinese coffees.

From their signature cocktail selections, try the popular Poppies Pina Colada (IDR 97,000 or USD 7.15). It’s a sweet and refreshing rum-based cocktail made with light rum, coconut cream, and pineapple. If you’re feeling peckish, local delights you can choose from include satays and nasi goreng fried rice. But if you’re coming as a group, you can opt for a feast with their rijsttafel. This is a Dutch colonial-era rice table dining option. It presents small tasty portions of favourite dishes for sharing. The rijsttafel is around IDR 278,000 (USD 20.50) for a minimum of 2 persons. The more the merrier here, with a cost of IDR 144,000 for each additional diner.

The Kopi Pot is Poppies’s sister restaurant. You can find it in the upper section of the Jalan Legian main road. The spot provides a similar lush garden setting. Its street-side seating lets you have a drink or bite as you watch the world go by.
