Nusa Dua Beach Grill is a secluded surf bar and seafood grill that enjoys a prime location in Nusa Dua. The restaurant overlooks the Geger Lagoon on southern Nusa Dua’s Geger Beach, and is snugly positioned right between The Mulia mega resort and the landmark Geger Temple. The restaurant predates the resort, established in 1995 when Geger was still an exotic and deserted beach, and still maintains its charm by offering great views and settings with delicious food at reasonable prices.
Nusa Dua Beach Grill started off following a passion for surfing by veteran wave rider and videographer Timothy Stripling, and a love for cooking by his Balinese wife Putu. The restaurant evolved from humble beginnings, as a beach surf bar where you could paddle out to the great surf just up front, then back in to chill out with some drinks and hearty bites. The full-fledged restaurant today has a varied menu, occasionally features live music, and is a popular choice for locals and expats for private parties.

Seafood selections from the grill include a barramundi fillet (IDR 90,000), which is sweet, tender and well balanced with sautéed mushrooms, balsamic onion marmalade and potato wedges on the side. Meanwhile, its seafood combo is a good one that lets you sample delights of the sea; a mixed platter of sesame tuna, pink peppercorn mahi-mahi, spicy prawns and paprika squid (IDR 130,000). Local delights include nasi campur mixed rice plate (IDR 65,000), a fish cooked traditionally in banana leaf and served with rice and vegetables (IDR 75,000).
The menu at Nusa Dua Beach Grill also features a varied selection of pizzas (a fettucine lobster in pink sauce and with green peas in cream sauce at IDR 300,000 is a prime option), as well as pastas, light seafood bites, and Californian smoothies blended in apple mango juice. Refreshing blends that are perfect for an afternoon at the lagoon are the Super Berry Smoothie of strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and bee pollen, and a Mixed Island of fresh fruit and yogurt, coco cream and honey (IDR 45,000). Cold Bintangs and other libations are also available from the bar.
It may look rustic from the outside, but Nusa Dua Beach Grill has gradually renovated and upgraded most of its facilities over the years. Its hidden location makes it an ideal choice for those who prefer the quieter eastern side of Geger Beach.
Getting here on your own might be a challenge. However, its free afternoon pick-up services within the local Nusa Dua neighbourhood add to the convenience if you’re staying within the main BTDC luxury resort area, and looking for a great alternative to your five-star fine dining. If you’re staying at The Mulia, all you need to do is walk down to the south end of the beach to find it.
