Mertasari Beach is at the westernmost end of the coastal stretch of Sanur Beach. Although rugged and orientated more towards local activities, such as fishing and boating, Mertasari Beach serves up some visitor-friendly activities too. It often plays host to windsurfers, kitesurfers, and its vast flat field is frequently used as a take-off and landing spot for paramotoring and paragliding. The beach offers the added attraction of a stunning view of the sun setting over the distant mangrove forests.
What to Do at Mertasari Beach
The beach footpath to Sanur extends to Mertasari Beach, providing you with scenic beach walks, as well as a pleasant cycling route. The Mercure Resort Sanur borders Mertasari to the east, while a vast reclaimed area of coarse sand features a jetty to the west. Swimming at Mertasari isn’t as pleasant as in Sanur’s other beaches. However, some areas along this coastal strip are protected by artificial wave breakers making it a good spot to enjoy ocean kayaking (kayaks are available for rent from around IDR 15,000 or around a doller). While the more sophisticated dining spots are on the hotel beachfronts, you can find some local warung vendors selling cheap refreshments and snacks near the shoreline too.
