Kody & Ko

Quirky Home Ware and Colourful Art Boutique in Seminyak

Kody & Ko is a little boutique tucked away on a side street off Jalan Kayu Aya in Seminyak and only a stone’s throw away from Seminyak Square. The shop features bright and colourful contemporary home ware and art pieces sourced locally, and made by both local and expat artists. Unique and fun items, from kitsch portraits of Balinese girls, pastel-coloured bean bags, Buddha statuettes in full colour, and flower and zebra-striped handbags are some of the things you’ll stumble upon inside the gallery. Unusual furniture is also displayed at the storefront.

What first comes to mind when entering Kody & Ko’s is the eye candy. Every single item on display is something out of the ordinary. It’s the perfect place to go looking for objects for the home or an unusual but cheerful gift that will invite curiosity. As a result of scouring the island for unique works, all the things in its collection are treasures. Racks and walls are full of face artwork and animal busts, and alongside the colourful Buddhas that theoretically represent Zen, there’s a set of flamboyantly coloured pop skulls that somehow defy their usual depiction of grim and death.

Handcrafted and hand-painted wooden and papier-mâché animal figures range from colourfully painted hunter bounty-style deer head busts to hang on the wall, to a variety of standing figurines for room corners or tabletops, such as bulldogs, puppies, elephants and winged pigs (a humorous nod to the famous phrase). Among the designer brand items in its collection are the resin pop skull busts and prints by Cowboy Civilians, and quirky limited-edition furniture designs by Design Grenade. Blending pop and classic, there’s surely something in store here for art lovers who love to break away from the ordinary.

A truly Asian inspired concoction is the Hot Mandarin, a flute comprising vodka-infused mandarin muddled with chilli, shaken with fresh apple, lemon and orange juice, and then Cointreau that is finally set alight. You can also choose to sip wine inside the cool, earthy toned wine cellar with its plush grand sofas. While still focusing on great ambience, beverages and cuisine, Slippery Stone is also set to become a regular venue for art happenings; its spacious gallery currently only shows a small collection of paintings.
