Exclusive Beach Club Oasis on Gili Meno

Karma Beach Gili Meno is the most stylish restaurant and beach club to grace the eastern coast of Gili Meno, the most passive island retreat among the three Gili Islands. The beach club features a unique all-bamboo structure and two-layered grass-roofed rotunda – a striking feature that complements the beachscape of the Karma Reef Gili Meno with its cosy wooden beachside huts.

  • Only a few minutes’ walk north along the paved beach path from Gili Meno’s main anchorage, Karma Beach Gili Meno welcomes those looking for a finer alternative for dining and well-mixed libations on this small placid island. It also serves up great set breakfasts with serene sunrises and ocean views to match. Evenings are just as soothing with refreshing cocktails from subtly lit bamboo bar, and with soulful jazzy tunes backed by the sounds of the ocean.

The beach club is accessible from both ends of the path that runs through the main eastern Meno coast, and it is quite easy to walk around the whole circumference of the island within an hour or two before winding back at Karma Beach.

At daytime, Karma Beach is all bright with azure waters brilliantly completing its white sand beachfront. Ambling guests stumbling upon the beach club from the other side of the island are easily tempted to take refuge from the heat of the day, either under the cool dome of its main structure, at one of the parasol-shaded wicker setups laid out on the sand, or on one of the round sun loungers near the water. Many who are on long stays also find their daily hang-loose spot here.

The kitchen is helmed by talented Balinese Chefs Made and Wayan, who have years of experience in previous positions at hotels in the Middle East under their belts. Under supervision and direction from Raymond Saja of Karma Beach Bali and Di Mare fame, the kitchen at Karma Beach Gili Meno presents fine Mediterranean delights and world-class cuisine to the table.

A great set Aussie breakfast, ‘Mediterranean style’; eggs with bacon, sausage, baked beans, oven-dried tomatoes and rocket salad starts day perfectly. Throughout the rest if the day, chef’s picks include fresh grilled reef fish, at IDR 120,000, which comes served on a bed of tomato carpaccio, topped with caramelized shallots and dashes of balsamic vinaigrette, and there’s the herb crusted yellowfin tuna salad (IDR 80,000) with arugula, capers, green olives and olive oil.

For something simple but good to nibble away on the loungers, one may opt for the bucket of chilled poached prawns with remoulade and tomato-horseradish sauce, at IDR 80,000. Desserts are heavenly, such as the Chocolate Mousse Nirvana, which is a blend of dark, milk and white chocolate at IDR 65,000 a scoop, served in a martini glass and with a cherry on top.

Even though sunsets aren’t the thing here, late afternoons are magical as the skies fade from crimson to a star-speckled black and the waves shimmer with boat lights. Cocktails and mocktails to pair the evening onward start from IDR 80,000. The overall atmosphere on Gili Meno is hushed and laidback, and Karma Beach follows suit with its relaxing vibes with soft jazz pumped out from two quirky design speakers adjacent the bar.
