The cooking class introduces you to tropical herbs and spices, as well as the exotic ingredients involved in traditional Balinese cuisine. A Day at Jambangan Bali Cooking Class
A typical day at Jambangan Bali Cooking Class starts off with a morning traditional Balinese fresh market tour, where you’ll be able to sample and purchase ingredients that you’ll eventually take back to the class. Added feature includes witnessing various cultural highlights, such as local rice farmers tending their fields, visits to an authentic Balinese home where you can learn more about the agrarian ways of life, such as coconut oil processing, to making Balinese flower tray offerings and a variety of woven coconut leaf crafts. Some of these large woven leaves are practically used as makeshift shelter and carpets when you opt for a class that takes place at a local temple.
All classes are conducted in English by local chefs familiar with their heritage cuisine. After cooking, you may enjoy the fruits of your labour in the idyllic tropical garden settings of a Balinese house compound. Recipes include non-vegetarian and vegetarian options. Favourite dishes include minced chicken satay, Balinese ‘lawar’ meat or vegetable salad mixes, sweet tempeh, chicken curries, tuna wraps, gado-gado vegetable mix doused in peanut sauce and banana caramel fritters.
