Eatwell Bali

Cosy Meat Lovers’ Spot in Seminyak

EatWell is aptly named in that it offers a great selection of quality steaks, juicy burgers and grills in generously sized portions. Located on Seminyak’s Jalan Basangkasa, this little diner is an easy to miss due to its unpretentious exterior – a partly canopied porch set amongst the row of restaurants, boutiques and outlets that line the main route. Step in from the bustling street and you will find cosy spaces under dense creepers at the porch and an air-conditioned inner section laid-out with white wooden tables and chairs.

With such a cool and laidback atmosphere to escape the hot and hectic street scene, together with a menu selection, affordable prices and friendly services from its waiting staff, it’s no wonder that the place gets quite packed during particular hours. It doesn’t fuss too much on settings and fancy interiors, and rather focuses on what people actually come here for: the food. A simple and pleasant place to enjoy and be content – vegans and vegetarians beware however; it’s meant only for meat eaters in here.

The menu is straightforward and lists the obvious – burgers, grills, sirloins, chops… you name it, and with some selections of salads, breads and soups to balance it up. A rib-eye steak is only under the IDR 100,000 mark which can be a bit too good to be true, for Seminyak at least. And while there is much debate on what actually authentic Wagyu beef is, and whether their 200gr patties really comprise the highly prized Japanese meat, we totally enjoyed the burgers. Steaks come served with either potato gratin or French fries. It would be wisest to try out different selections off their menu during the course of several visits, as each are quite heavy and it’s impossible to sample more than one serving in a single trip.

EatWell also features a special brunch menu, a great break for those staying in any of the hotels and villas in Seminyak. Omelettes come served with a whopping stack of bacon and toast, and there’s the signature breakfast burger that comes with soft sesame buns, crunchy to crispy bacon, perfectly cooked eggs and tomato and lettuce. EatWell has also secured its signature presentation – its dishes are served on wooden chopping boards, giving you a rustic dining feel fit for a Viking. To balance off and wash down the sinful treats, opt for refreshing drinks, from tropical fruit juices and milkshakes to 'buy 4 get, 1 free' Smirnoff promos to enjoy with a gang of friends.

Most of the fresh meat is displayed in a petite glass cabinet, and diners can observe the action going on in the open kitchen as their orders are being prepared. With its growing clientele, parking can be an issue, as with the dining space inside (there's more space upstairs for groups). But with time, we believe that this cosy meat lovers’ haven will eventually expand, and hopefully retain its ‘good quality meats at affordable prices’ trait that it has successfully established!
