Double Six Beach, also referred to as ‘Blue Ocean Beach’, is a half-kilometre stretch of golden-white sand that is part of the whole length of Seminyak Beach. The beach connects the northernmost strip of Legian, also referred to as ‘Blue Ocean Beach’ and Seminyak’s southernmost beachfront of The Oberoi Bali resort, which is often referred to simply as ‘Oberoi Beach’. Part of Jalan Double Six (also known as ‘Jalan Arjuna’), one of Legian’s main beach side streets, runs parallel the beach, lined with hip bars and restaurants.
Double Six Beach is publicly accessible (entry fees are only for motorists coming from ‘downtown’ Legian, which also includes parking at IDR 5,000 or less than a dollar), and you can simply walk down to the beach if you’re staying at Legian’s Hotel Kumala Pantai, Ananta Legian, The Jayakarta Bali, or the namesake Double Six Luxury Hotel. Right on the beachfront, you’ll find beachfront dining spots offering all-day dining. However, the real crowds come sunset time, with the likes of La Plancha spreading colourful parasols, beach bags and even mini tables on the sand. You won’t find any exclusively gay beaches in Bali, but Double Six was (and still is) popular among gay visitors and locals.

Despite its great mix of sunset beach dining and partying venues such as Cocoon Beach Club that is only steps away on the parallel beach road, most of the time, Double Six Beach offers a restful experience, particularly daytime. Come here from the early mornings and you are treated to moderately good waves for surfing, while you can claim a sun lounger rented by locals or cue a strolling local Balinese masseuse for a cheap beach spa treatment (negotiable from IDR 50,000 to 100,000 or USD 3.80 to 7.60).
For some action, Double Six Beach has a horse stable nearby at Mesari Beach Inn, where you can rent a horse, saddle up and enjoy a horse ride even with a bottle of cold Bintang in one hand. To surf, there are surfboard rentals and surf schools as well, and the sandbar of this part of Seminyak is suitable for beginners. Those with a penchant for sophisticated services can always head up to the Double Six Luxury and enjoy finer dining options such as at the Plantation Grill or their rooftop dining.
