Charly’s Chocolate Factory is a unique sightseeing spot on Jasri Beach near Candidasa, East Bali. The chocolate factory is a privately-owned homemade chocolate production facility where for IDR 10,000 per person, you can visit and tour its shady coconut groves and hobbit-like houses where most of the products are made and displayed. The houses are built of layered bamboo and shaped like huts with pointy roofs, and with round windows that swivel in the centre to let in fresh air. The ‘admission’ includes a bar of organic soap as keepsake of your visit, also produced here.
Visiting Charly’s Chocolate Factory
Besides its 3 artistic bamboo houses, you can also find half a ‘pirate’s ship’ built up in similar fashion, using layered bamboo and complete with portholes, overlooking the calm Jasri waves. You can climb up to the deck to pose for some memorable shots, and even down in its cabin. There are also 2 giant swings that hang between the coconut palms, where you can relive some childhood fun (not recommended for small kids, though). Still, the main attraction is the homemade chocolate.
Charly’s Chocolate Factory (named after its founder) changed name to Bali Chocolate Factory, however, people still refer to it by its former. It locally sources its cocoa beans, which are later cold-pressed and processed into raw, organic dark chocolate, which it packages into bars bearing the brand Narkabo Chocolate Nibbles. Tastings are available in the stunning bamboo huts. Another to try is their Bali Krunch bars, featuring crispy rice coated in the dark chocolate, and their Deep Tropic Coconut Syrup are good to bring home to top your ice creams. Prices are from IDR 60,000 (USD 4.50).
