Bali Shopping

  • Carrefour Plaza Kuta

Major Shopping Square on Sunset Road Kuta

Carrefour has a worldwide presence, and its hypermarkets are spread all over Indonesia. There are two main stores in Kuta alone, with the largest being the plaza on Kuta’s Sunset Road. The large building is hard to miss along the road heading to the Dewaruci (‘Simpangsiur’) roundabout, located on a slight bend and bearing the large and recognizable ‘Carrefour’ logo. While the goods being offered here might be similar to the ones you find at other Carrefour stores elsewhere – from daily necessities, meat and groceries, electronics and household products to clothes – the plaza features numerous tenants offering a wide variety on four levels, and the hypermarket itself has some corners featuring unique only-in-Bali items, and then some.

  • Carrefour Plaza Kuta offers a convenient shopping experience with a very spacious layout and ample parking space on four levels. Inside you will find almost everything you will need during your holiday on the island. International franchise fast food outlets and a great Periplus Bookstore that stocks international bestsellers occupy the ground level, while the upper levels feature a games arcade, a food court comprising an eclectic mix of tenants and offering a rich variety of local and international cuisine, and the Carrefour hypermarket.

Getting here is easy: it is within a 20-minute taxi ride from Kuta’s beach area or neighbouring Seminyak, and half an hour from Sanur. The plaza is a popular rendezvous point among locals and visitors, with a Kentucky Fried Chicken, A&W Restaurant and Wendy’s on the ground floor that usually get packed during lunchtime. If you prefer to try out some local flavours, head to Solaria on the second floor, or up to the third floor food court and try out the delicious selections from notable Indonesian restaurant brands MM Juice, Es Teller 77, and D’Pots that all present their signature presentations of Indonesian favourites such as ‘nasi goreng’ fried rice, ‘bakso’ meatball soup and the mouth-watering fruit-mix and shaved ice desserts of ‘es campur’ and ‘es teller’.

A reliable local camera retailer, Sinar Photo, is a great stopover to have your prints made or to buy a backup SD card. Next to it is a Bata shoe store and an Apple dealer. Also, at the perimeter of the hypermarket’s main counter are many little stands that mimic a traditional market with thatch-roofed style displays selling traditional Balinese cakes and snacks.
