Bintang Supermarket is one of the most notable shopping spots in central Seminyak, located on the western side of the main Jalan Raya Seminyak Road (also referred to as Jalan Basangkasa). The supermarket provides visitors, expatriates and locals double convenience: firstly, this large shop with its big red star logo is a handy and casual landmark for meeting up with friends, day or night, before heading to highlighted diners or hangouts that surround the area, and secondly, it’s a great one-stop spot for sourcing daily needs, imported goods and refreshments, especially if you’re a long-stay guest at one of the villas nearby.
Bintang also caters to visitors staying at or exploring the northern end of Legian and you can find almost all of your needs in a single visit here. It’s a well-known place and it is among the only few supermarkets in the area selling a wide range of imported goods, such as vegemite (another place in Seminyak to find such items is the Bali Deli on Jalan Kunti and one of the tenants at the Seminyak Square on the far end of Jalan Kayu Aya).

The supermarket is only a 15-minute walk from most of the northern Legian and central Seminyak hotels and villas, and right next door to it is Seminyak Café, a Seminyak institution that offers great espressos and French pastries. If the villa unit you’re staying at comes with a kitchenette, such as at the Seminyak Suite Private Villa or the Sun Island Boutique Villas, you’ll be able to cook up your own favourite homemade dish, knowing ingredients are just a short walk down the road. Bintang has a complete selection of local tropical spices alongside imported dressing oils, salsas and sauces.
Inside, on two levels, Bintang features items that you would commonly find at a department store, and then some. Rows are arranged in fresh groceries, dairies, meat, poultry and fish; liquors and non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, toiletries and down to regular daily household necessities. If your villa doesn’t have that cereal, muesli or cheese your kids love, you can always source it here.
You can also shop for some great items that you won’t find back at home which all make great souvenirs, such as the famous Indonesian Kopiko coffee candies, island-grown Arabica beans – whole or ground – as well as Balinese knick-knacks such as key rings and fridge magnets to remind you of your Bali trip. You’ll also find affordable clothing too. The vast parking space at front is adjacent to a DVD shop (mostly selling knock-off copies) as well as a row of national and international bank ATMs and a money changer.
