Bella Rosa Italian Restaurant in Bali
After Sunset Italian Dining in Legian0
(Bella Rosa closed in 2014 for conceptual changes, and is now SKAI Beach Club)
Bella Rosa, located at Padma Resort Bali at Legian’s westernmost beachside corner, serves five-star Italian cuisine amongst lush gardens and lofty settings. With plenty of outdoor seating options just metres away from Legian’s sunset beach path, it serves alfresco dinners with views of the rolling surf and the quieter coast north of Kuta.
Open for dinner only, the restaurant offers choices of pizzas, baked in its wood-fired oven adjacent the resort’s main poolside, as well as a gluten-free menu and a comprehensive drink list. The restaurant’s main indoor dining section is air conditioned, while its outside borders are open patios with a separate dappled wooden deck available for intimate occasions.Read More

In from the lobby at the Padma Resort Bali at Legian, the way to Bella Rosa is a pleasant stroll through Padma Resort’s sculpture-filled lawns and gardens. It’s hard to miss the smoking tower of the pizza oven, slightly distant from the main restaurant despite being an elemental part of it. The pizzas here are Italian thin-crust style, with choices of 11 different toppings. In addition to the common marinara, margarita and Hawaii, one to go for is the resort’s special ‘Pizza of the Gods’, topped with goat's cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, olives, roasted garlic pepperoni salami, and Bella Rosa pesto.
A flight of stairs up from here takes you to the thatch-roofed Bella Rosa, featuring hardwood flooring throughout its main dining room and exposed beam ceilings that give the indoor dining area its sense of spaciousness. Complementing this are 15 square tables out on the patios and a few more under a rooftop beside the bar. Your seating choice with sea breezes outdoors or the fully air-conditioned interior is set off with the attractive cuisine presented by Scottish chef John Taylor and Aussie Bradley Pittman.
For starters, there is bruschetta Bella Rosa, served with Parma ham, fresh mozzarella and basil pesto, or you can try your own pizza with personalised toppings to suit your taste. Spaghetti della casa is a good choice of pasta, served with a zesty addition of chicken and prawns in a spicy tomato cream sauce. Our char-grilled Australian chilled rib eye steak was a signature item off the menu, and came with roasted garlic, rosemary sauce and with a side of potato and vegetables. If you’re looking for gluten-free alternatives, a great choice is the pasta putanesca, served with tomato ragout, anchovies, capers and black olives, and topped with chilli pecorino cheese.
If you still have room for more, conclude your meal with Bella Rosa's assortment of sumptuous desserts such as the warm chocolate pudding. The drinks selection includes a good variety of cocktails and mocktails, and a comprehensive wine selection as well. Also, check out their list of creative bar concoctions, comprising quirky names such as the ‘kinky mojito’, ‘hara kiri’ and more peculiar ones such as ‘where’s Senti – have you seen her around?’ – a refreshing blend of Absolut citron, lemon juice, homemade lemongrass syrup and soda, which we believe was inspired by the bar crew’s casual time during recipe tryouts. The relaxing sounds of live performers on acoustic guitars provide nightly entertainment with a medley of popular tunes to add to your memorable evenings on this secluded spot in Legian.
