Ah Yat Abalone at RIMBA Jimbaran Bali by AYANA is a great place to head to when you’re up for some Chinese seafood delights. Lunch and dinners are served in bright and modern settings, together with top five-star services that you can expect from the AYANA. The restaurant extends to Bali the quality cuisine of the successful restaurant brand from Hong Kong, known for its authentic dishes and live seafood selections.
The restaurant welcomes you to a dedicated building on the southernmost perimeter of the resort, with different areas that are clean and spacious throughout – although not overtly Oriental. Before the main dining room are its live seafood displays with clear tanks filled with over a dozen different types, from gourami, garoupa, shrimp and prawn, local and imported lobster, clams, oysters, and the namesake abalone. Items range from IDR 55,000 to 180,000 (from USD 5), and you can have your choices grilled, steamed, barbecued or fried, with choices of flavoursome Asian sauces.

However, one of the best ways to gain the full Ah Yat Abalone experience is through their set menu offerings, good to share with a group of five and comprising seven to ten courses (priced IDR 572,000 to 858,000 or USD 45-66). Menus include delicacies such as chicken soup diced with bird’s nest, stewed abalone with shiitake mushrooms, Hong Kong style steamed garoupa, and deep-fried chicken wings stuffed with glutinous rice.
Secondly, Ah Yat Abalone has been popular for its daily all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch, priced at only IDR 218,000 (USD 17) per person. You simply tick on the 24 items on a checklist at your table. Mouth-watering selections include shrimp dumpling with bamboo shoot, siew mai topped with fish roe, chicken claws with Ah Yat’s homemade sweet sauce, and very smoothly done porridge with century egg, shredded chicken or pork.
You may be tempted to tick a lot. However, two or three of the delightful morsels can prove quite filling. Moreover, you’ll be charged if you don’t finish more than half of an item. To wash them down, from the equally extensive drink list are Chinese and organic teas, including a truly refreshing iced oolong. Ah Yat’s special fruit juice blends are worth trying, such as the coconut vanilla frappe (IDR 80,000 or USD 6) that gives a tasty and cooling sensation with every sip.
Ah Yat Abalone is a two-storey venue. Downstairs is a collection of very discreet VIP and private dining rooms that are named after Asian cities, and each offering varying sizes and with different sets of interior features. There are connecting grand rooms fit for wedding receptions, while smaller ones with single round or long tables are reminiscently Hong Kong style, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking quaint Zen and Chinese bamboo gardens.
