Once known for his fresh fruit-based desserts, like the delightful ‘Pandanbert’ fusion of aromatic pandan and salak ‘snake fruit’, Chef Will upped the ante by opening this dessert spot on Jalan Raya Sanggingan, right next door to the legendary Naughty Nuri’s. Gusto Gelato is one of the go-tos and must-tries in northern Seminyak if you're in for a great selectoin of gelato flavours. The main gelato showcase is manned by at least 10 staff who are always busy throughout the day, serving gelato in tubs of various sizes to accommodate single to quadruple scoops (which you can choose different flavours), as well as by cone. This boutique French pastry and bakery shop is right across the road from the Deus Ex Machina in Canggu, and offers all sorts of French breads and croissants, together with a cake display showcasing colourful macaroons and unique French cakes and desserts such as Galette des Rois or ‘King Cake’, Kouign-amann puff pastry, and tarts and lemon meringues of all sizes. Basically, it’s the place to go in Bali for lovers of French pastry. There are now two other stores presenting the fresh and sweet delights, one in Seminyak and another in Umalas. This small cake shop and café is easy to find along Sanur’s end of Ngurah Rai bypass. Step inside and you will be welcomed to a large variety of homemade delights, with cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, muffins and cupcakes, all displayed in glass showcases. You can opt for a small slice, starting from only IDR 25,000 per serving. Traditional American desserts to try include the round spicy carrot cake with walnuts or a brown cake with grated carrots. All of the sweet morsels at Ruth’s are made with fresh creams, butter, berries and other fruits, brown and white sugars, baking flour, natural spices and cold-pressed oils. The cheesecakes here are worth trying, being rich in cream and cheese fillings and bursting with fruity flavour, with options of blueberry, strawberry or raspberry.

Art and gelato lovers can come down to Gaya Fusion on Jalan Raya Sayan in Ubud for a sweet treat. Gaya Gelato serves up a remarkably unique variety of flavours of creamy delights. Another great place for wonderful Italian gelato is Gelato Secrets, with shops available in Sanur, Seminyak and Ubud. The Sanur flagship outlet is on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, in front of the Hardy’s Supermarket; well positioned to provide a cool treat for those venturing around Sanur’s quiet roads on foot. They use fresh fruits, herbs, chocolate and spices to produce a premium Italian gelato with a range of great flavours. There’s chocolate and vanilla, and a range of unique combinations such as rose petal, dragon fruit and salted caramel. Besides being available by the scoop and served in crunchy homemade waffle cones, gelato lovers will also be treated to a selection of gelato mini cakes, lollipops and sorbets in exotic flavours such as lime, mango, passion fruit, coconut and an ever-so-refreshing coco pandan.

Caramel is a heavenly desserts and cake spot up in Ubud, presenting high quality items and pastry creations by Indonesian pastry chef duo Jessica Lestariana and Hermawan Tanjung. Caramel also has great coffee. Delights include rum raisin affogato with artisanal espresso, at only IDR 45,000. Indonesian French press coffees, Vietnamese drip with caramel milk, and a selection of fresh fruit juices are among the drink list items. The petite shop features two levels with most of the cake displays on the first. Delightful macaroons, meringues and strawberry tartlets, and triple chocolate cakes with dark jelly and shiny icing are simply too hard to resist. A must-try is the Chocolate Dome, comprising mousse, salted caramel with a biscuit base and ganache covering.
