Why Did We Select This Hotel?

Those who are looking for a stay that allows direct beachfront access to the sands of Kuta Beach should look for hotels along the southern route of Jalan Kartika Plaza, since Kuta's northern part has Jalan Pantai Kuta running between the hotels and the beach. The Ramada Bintang Bali provides that and covers all the basics as well. This hotel is not too far from the main highlights such as Waterbom and the Discovery Mall, and many shops and restaurants are just an easy stroll away.

As one of the first grand beachfront resorts in the area, you can expect the rooms to be a bit old-fashioned. Nevertheless, that would work well for those looking for a sense of nostalgia. The hotel’s spacious gardens are beautiful, coupled with wonderful swimming pools, and it enjoys a secluded beach section of Kuta that is far away from the crowds. The resort’s classical Balinese open-stage may serve well as backdrop to sunset seafood barbecues, with cultural dance performances held nightly.

What We Loved:

  • Good position on Kuta Beach's quieter southern end
  • Close to loads of restaurants, shops and bars
  • Memorable dining: from seafood buffets to theme night dinners with cultural dances and live entertainment
  • Theta Spa offers soothing seascapes while you enjoy your treatments
  • Classical but well-maintained rooms and suites with parquet flooring and teak furniture

Why Did We Select This Hotel?

With Kuta’s main southern street named after it, the Discovery Kartika Plaza is a significant landmark choice. The hotel is conveniently right next door to the Discovery Mall and just across the road from the Waterbom Bali, and lets you stay close to all the destination features of Kuta, from beach and shopping to dining and nightlife. The hotel’s garden lawn connects to the Kuta beach footpath.

Some may find the hotel slightly rough around the edges in some areas, it has a period charm as one of Bali's pioneer five-star hotels. Many compliment the buffet breakfasts at The Discovery, well prepared and varied to cater to palates of different nationalities, and which you get to enjoy alongside one of the resort’s pools with wide views over the resort’s gardens. The resort’s centrepiece freeform pools are great, complete with a bridge, swim-up bar and separate kiddie pool. Great for families, with a dedicated kids club and beachfront playground onsite.

What We Loved:

  • Convenient location right next door to the Discovery Shopping Mall and across the road from Waterbom Bali water park
  • Spacious resort garden adjacent the Kuta beachfront
  • Great buffet breakfasts, with a view
  • Great dining options, including seafood buffets and theme night dinners with live entertainment
  • Good for families travelling with kids: kids club and activities that will keep the little ones busy

Mid-Range Hotels in Kuta

For people looking for a full set of facilities but don’t expect perfection at every turn, these mid-range hotels are for you. Sure, you get a nice pool, room service, concierge, but the price is kept lower in different ways – for example, reduced selections at breakfast or slightly smaller guestrooms. The competition in Kuta is so fierce that prices get reduced on five-star hotels pushing them into mid-range territory. But make no mistake, these are excellent hotels!
