Candidasa Shopping

Where to Shop and What to Buy in Candidasa

Candidasa, as well as most of the east of the island, is a destination of respite and exploration, thus shopping would be limited to the more exotic and traditional items and curios found in the traditional villages and art shops.

There are also some bookshops on the Candidasa main road, as well as mini convenience stores catering to the needs of visitors to the area. A variety of handicraft items are also available at the accommodation facilities spread along the coast.

Tenganan Pegringsingan Art Shops

Bali's famous and exotic double ikat fabric known as Geringsing is produced and sold in the Bali Aga village of Tenganan (known by its complete designation as 'Tenganan Pegringsingan'), located approximately 17 kilometers north from Candidasa.

The rare fabric is a heirloom and legacy that has been well-preserved by the community of Tenganan. Not only is producing the fabric a painstaking process, it also goes through a lenghty sequence reaching to its final form.

Natural dye colours are used to adorn the threads, all sourced from various indigenous tree barks, plants and herbs, and techniques in the weaving are also unique. The end result of the fabric is considered a magnum opus, and several types of the Geringsing are believed by the Tengananese to possess mystical powers.
